I've been really busy lately with my two jobs and home life, but I have been thinking constantly about what I want my artwork to be (at least within the medium of oil). I think that for too long I've tried too hard to stick to the way I'm "supposed" to paint instead of just having fun and painting what I want to paint. This painting is titled "Why I Still Believe In Magic," and it's a painting of my beautiful wife Randi. I think that my most successful paintings are the ones where I kind of ignore the "rules" and just paint. So this will be my new direction.
This painting is most likely the first in a new series I'm simply calling Magic. I see magic all around us. Love is magic, Joy is magic, the ability to Create is magic, Friends are magic, and obviously Art is one of the oldest forms of magic. To take base ingredients... literally dirt and oil, and smear them with a bit of hair on a stick onto a panel or canvas and breathe life into something that moves people and makes them think and feel?
That must be magic.
